In early 2004, several economic development organizations in Schenectady County began to meet informally in order to better coordinate their efforts to help small business. In 2005 the group was formally organized into the Economic Development Group. Hosted by the Metroplex Development Authority and supported by both the City and County of Schenectady, EDG members meet weekly to plan, coordinate and execute their economic development and business support activities. Specific roles are assigned to each agency and each business is served by the agency best equipped to assist them with their individual project. Other agencies will lend their expertise to assist the lead agency when necessary. The EDG also serves as a clearinghouse for information requests from businesses outside the county. Individual projects are tracked through their completion.
