About SCCBC

Schenectady County, New York is actively recruiting entrepreneurs to develop, locate and grow their businesses within the county. Among the many resources located in the county is the Schenectady County Community Business Center (SCCBC). SCCBC is Schenectady County’s one-stop resource center for new and growing businesses and business owners. We are housed in a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose business facility located in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood of the City of Schenectady. We provide services in four main areas:

Mission

The mission of the Schenectady County Community Business Center and our entrepreneurial development program is to encourage and support the development, growth and success of new and existing small businesses in Schenectady County. By providing a comprehensive package of training, counseling,

business and technical assistance services, leased space, shared services and financial support, the center will foster long term economic growth and job creation.

History

Built by the County of Schenectady, SCCBC opened its doors in September of 2000. The opening of the center was a culmination of several years of cooperative efforts by a dedicated group of elected officials, municipal employees, business people, civic leaders, local organizations and private citizens. All of these individuals came together to build a community-based center for business development that would make a significant contribution to the quality of life for the citizens of Schenectady County. Working from the Schenectady County Chamber of Commerce’s original idea for a business incubator, the project grew into a multi-purpose resource center designed to serve the needs of new and existing businesses and their owners throughout Schenectady County.

Goal

The goal of SCCBC is to support business people and the development of new businesses and the growth of existing businesses. This is done through:

  • the leasing of incubator space, which includes a wide range of support services designed to help these businesses to succeed.
  • providing an assortment of business education programs and training opportunities.
  • direct assistance in the form of counseling, consulting and mentoring services.
  • financing from our small business loan programs.

Our long-term goal is to foster economic development, revenue generation and improvement in the quality of life in the county.

Facility

The facility is a new, state of the art, 25,000 SF building designed and built specifically to serve as a community business center. The business center has 19,000 SF of space available for lease to qualified businesses. The remainder of the space houses offices, two training and conference rooms, a resource room with the latest in business equipment, a business library, a kitchenette as well as other common use space. A loading dock accommodates shipping and receiving.
